The Recording

Once we started recording, we expected to record the song in just a few takes. However, this was not the case. It took us a whole two hours and a solid 30 takes to complete the song. Between our editing, Thomas' joke, and Adam's mom's cookies, were frequently distracted to say the least. We ended up deciding to add a funk mid section which included a whistling horn section. However, this portion took a lot of work to get right. We ended the song with a gospel shout music section asking Ms. McKay to bless us with an "A", which she will, hopefully. Once we listened to our finished product, we realized all the things that needed to be tweaked and added. This is where the ambient mic is a problem. Had we recorded each track individually, we could just delete one persons track and they could start over, but because we all shared that mic for our instruments, if one person screws up, EVERYONE has to go back to the top and do it all over again.

The Creative Process

Soo, we got to Adam's house with our instruments and Tyler brought his recording equipment. We were all set to record but we had yet to actually write the song. We decided to write it in the A blues format and the lyrics were just simple rhyming verses. We just wrote the lyrics as we played, so it was a pretty fluid process. Once we had the foundation of the song, we decided to set up the recording equipment. We only used two mics, one to record the band and one to record the vocals. We could have recorded each track individually, but we wanted a raw, live sound which is why we want for the whole ambient mic approach. Once the mic check was finished two hours after we started, we were ready to record.

Change of Plans

Soooo, I never ended up teaching anyone how to play the guitar, nor did i teach anyone anything about the guitar. However, me and a couple of procrastinating friends decided to write a song about Zimbardo's prison study, and we decided to record it. The group included Thomas Cale on drums, Adam Trosin on rhythm guitar, Tyler Schultz on lead guitar, and me on bass, lead vocals and whistles.

Procrastinating

So friends, you may be wondering why I haven't posted in like two months. Well, that's because I haven't had a chance to actually teach Bree anything on the guitar yet. I should probably get around to that pretty soon seeing as how our school year will soon be coming to an end.
